Commentary
From "Tokaido Meisho Hiza Kurige" ("Famous Places of Tokaido; shanks Mare"). This series depicts the scenes from the popular novel, "Tokaido-chu Hiza Kurige" (Shanks Mare: 1802-22) by Jippensha Ikku (1765-1831). The novel tells of the humorous misadventures of travelers, Mr. Yahi and Mr. Kita, who caused havoc at inns and popular sites along the Tokaido.
