Alternate Title: Shin Yaku Genji Monogatari - At Night

Book illustration (Sashi-e) for "Shin Yaku Genji Monogatari" ("The New Interpretation of the Tale of Genji"), which was written by Lady Murasaki-shikibu in the Heian Period. The novel chronicled the life of Prince Genji and the people around him in the court. Countless stories, films, poems and paintings have been influenced by this classic maserpiece of Japanese literature.

Bun'en-do was active from the late Meiji era until right after WWII. It was famous for producing high quality art and literature books. The printer was Nakamura Masao.
