Object Description
Vertical color woodblock print from the series Shin Nigao (New Portraits) of kabuki actress Mori Ritsuko in the role of Okon. Mori Ritsuko performed at the Teikoku Gekijo (Imperial Theatre), which opened in 1911 in Tokyo to promote the theatrical arts in Japan.

Shin Nigao was a short-lived magazine series started in 1915 for 5 issues. Several artists contributed to one or two prints for the series which showcased more individual approaches to the traditional actors' portraits.
