Commentary
Taira no Shigehira (1158-1185) was captured at the Battle of Ichi-no-tani and brought to Kamakura for sentencing. While in captivity, the beautiful Senju no mae entertains him (shown here), and then informs him that his request to become a monk has been turned down; he faces execution.
