Object Description
Elaborate 4-tiered inro with tortoiseshell inlay of a jumping rooster, tree and floral imagery. Patterned Ojime (20th c.), and dog Katabori Netsuke. The qualities of an individual born in the year of the dog would be reflected on the wearer of this katabori netsuke, that being fierce loyalty and humanitarianism as well as intense stubbornness and cynicism. The dog is also thought to be a symbol of protection, and to have the properties of repelling demons. The rooster on the netsuke is a symbol of male good looks and virility.
