Object Description
5-tiered Tosa-style inro with gold and grey imagery of wisteria vines growing on bamboo trellis on black background. Wheat colored cord.

The wisteria illustrated growing on the bamboo trellis is traditionally associated with the months of April and May, and is a very feminine symbol. The combination of the wisteria with the bamboo signifies both beauty and immortality, as bamboo was considered to increase longevity through its signification as very durable and resilient in all kind of weather. (Goodall, 317)
