Object Description
Barbell shaped lidded vessel with two wing-shaped "ears" each of which has a 1/4-inch hole in the center, the mid-section is banded with two incised lines equidistant from the center, between which is a circle incised to the right of center. The circle is filled with a white slip/engobe, under which is a "button" appliqué. The back side has a similar circle with sgraffito inside. To the lower left of this circle are two coiled "legs" to which a fiberous string is attached. At the other end of the string the lid is afixed. The lid has a similar banding decoration formed with slip and sgraffito. The interior of the lid is decorated with an iron/rutile glaze over which the sodium in the kiln atmosphere has modeled and broken over the surface.
