Commentary
The flat shape of the plaque presents a technical challenge for the artist, because flat shapes are more difficult to enamel and fire properly. (F. Schneider, Oct 21, 2010)

Object Description
Japanese cloisonné circular plaque, with two phoenix in the center, executed in multicolored enamels against a copper glitter ground. The outer area of the plaque is decorated with alternating bird and dragon scenes, with stylized flowers in-between. The bottom of the plaque is covered with an unknown substance which is heavily cracked.
