There is a signature in gold and a red seal on the face of the tray, in the lower left. A stamp on the bottom reads: "JAPAN A&C."

Carved black lacquered wood, with paint, reed, and mother-of-pearl inlay.
Object Description
Rectangular Japanese black lacquerware tray with a separate black border held up above the tray by moher-of-pearl rings and bordered by reed wrapping. The tray has decoration of butterflies and chrysanthemum in brown and green paints and mother-of-pearl inlay.
