Object Description
Small teapot with a wisteria floral and vine pattern executed in opaque blue-toned enamels against a transparent green enamel and nanako (“fish roe” dots) foil ground. A tiny pink butterfly flits among the flowers. The handle and spout of the pot are decorated in bands of green and black enamel with circular cloisons. The enamels coloring the wisteria are applied sloppily, with no attempt to keep the colors within the wires. The lid is decorated in green enamel and foil, with a matching wisteria design and a tiny black butterfly. The lid has a small circular knob on top. The underside of the pot is decorated with spiraling wires and turquoise-blue enamel, with three applied gilded feet. The interior of the pot and lid is glazed with dark-blue enamel.
