Listed in the 1975 accession record as "Three piece Japanese gold lacquer writing table, ink-stone and brush box, and a document or letter box."

No marks on the objects inside the box. The storage box has a label on the exterior which reads "Meiji Ink Set," and a label on the exterior in kanji. There is also a label which reads "102" on the exterior of the box.

Carved wood with copper and gold flecked lacquer and cast metal (copper and silver) decoration.

Object Description
Box with writing implements, all finished in a thick lacquer toned with gold and copper, with brass flowers afixed as decoration. The box holds a silver metal water container, an ink plate, and five purple silk bags which contain 1) a pointed stick 2) a knife 3) a gold inkstone 4) a small brush with a cap 5) a medium sized brush with a cap. The finish on the handles of the tools matches that of the box and lid. The writing implement box is stored in a wooden storage box.
