Object Description
Chinese champlevé figure of the bodhisattva Guanyin holding a scroll. In the champlevé method, cells are cut or cast out of the metal body, creating sunken compartments to hold the enamel. The figure’s robe is decorated with large red and white flowers, small flowers of a blue-white enamel mix, and scrolling vines on a blue ground. Clay fills the hollow interior of the body, with a hole in the center to fit over a support. The enamel is very pitted from the firing process.
