Object Description
Ninteenth century Japanese color woodblock print depicting a group of samurai attacking an inn keeper. Act XI, Scene 3 shows the 47 Ronin finally capturing the enemy, Moronao. They were just about to give up searching for him when he was unexpectedly found hiding in a storage closet. When they killed him, the ronin cheered with excitement, wept and embraced each other and exclaimed, "We deserted our wives, we parted from our children, we left our aged parents uncared for, all to obtain this one head. What an auspicious day is this!"
