"Her earthenware vase of 1955 documents her post-1950 experimentation with lustre glazes. It is clearly a vessel shape, but the spontaneous, vague, and dreamlike drawing on its sides emphasizes the artist's personal expression rather than any functionalism. The costumed figure that adorns this vase recalls Wood's stage experience. This theatrical element is intensified by the lustre glaze with its reflected distortion of light and color."
