Commentary
"Applying green and brown semitransparent glazes reminiscent of sixth-century T'ang tomb sculptures to a whiteware body, Woodman used a shape derived from Etruscan pottery. Formed through throwing and extruding, this overscale vessel brings these traditional elements into the present. Postmodern in its sensibility, Pitcher, 1978, further develops the break with mid-century pot-making begun by Voulkos during the Otis years." (Martha Drexler Lynn, Revolution in Clay, 1994, pg. 106)
