Object Description
One in a pair of Japanese folding screens with six panels each. Each panel is 69" high and 23 1/2" wide, and has three paintings representing poets, mounted on a gold paper background with silk borders with golden flowers. The screens have wooden frames with bronze fittings made in the classical Japanese style. There are 18 poets on each screen (36 in all), each in a different pose, some sitting and writing, others reclining, all wearing elaborate costumes of the feudal period or 16th century. The screen itself is of a later period, it is only the paintings of the 36 poets that are antique.
