Edo period color woodblock print with an image of an actor dressed as a samurai. Danjuro IX (1839-1903) was one of the leading actors of the late 19th century and noted for his heroic roles. In a scene from the ever popular Chushingura, one of the 47 ronin disguises himself as a laborer, waiting for the right moment to resume his samurai duties to avenge the insult to his master.
