Commentary
Old number "L1136/114" written in pencil on the backing paper. Listed in Munthe inventory as "Late 18th c. or early 19th c.; Ming syle. Signature lost through remounting.

Black ink and white, brown, yellow and green paints, brushed onto silk. The main image has a grey-brown silk border and a bright coral silk brocade outside border.
Object Description
Mounted vertical scroll of a black and dark brown eagle, with back facing the viewer, turned to present the left side of his head in profile. The bird is perched upon a rock surrounded by waves. He has a large yellow and green eye turned to the left of the picture plane.
