Pierre Gabriel Berthault

French, (12/16/1737–3/3/1831)
A French etcher, he created views of Paris, Italy, and Syria for Lespinasse, Saint-Non and Cassas. At the request of the Emperor Napoleon, toward the end of his life, he worked on a project on the subject of Egypt. His major work was part of the "Tableaux Historiques de la Revolution Francaise," which consisted of 144 engravings covering the period of 1789 into the year VII of the French revolutionary calendar. Jean-Luis Prieur contributed sixty-nine illustrations to the "Tableaux Historiques," of which 67 were engraved by Berthault.
