"A noted American stage and screen actress, Jessica Lange is more widely known for her appearances in films such as King Kong (1976), Tootsie (1982) and Grey Gardens (2009) than for her work behind the lens. However, Lange’s casual practice of documenting her children as they grew soon became an artistic endeavor that has continued for over 15 years. Featuring photographs from her travels to Mexico, Africa, Romania, Finland, France and more in her first monograph, 50 Photographs, Lange describes her work as a photographer as 'the opposite of acting,' a process that 'can be solitary and private' (1).

While it may be too great a leap to consider Jessica Lange’s work as a photographer as a way of re-framing her career as an actress, it certainly does position her as an artist both behind and in front of the camera. Her work explores light, frame and composition in a way that is informed by her films yet able to transcend them."
