Yoshida Toshi was born in 1911 in Tokyo, and studied oil painting with his father Yoshida Hiroshi, and block carving with Maeda Yujiro. He graduated in 1935 from the school of Taiheiyogakai. He travelled widely in Europe, India, and the United States. He was a member of the Nihon Hanga Kyokai from 1952, and a member of the Graphics Art Club.
