American, (1908–1980's?)
Peter Meloy was born in Townsend, Montana, and studied law at the University of Montana at Missoula. He began working in clay in 1940, and was one of the founding members of the Archie Bray Foundation in 1950, before Rudy Autio and Peter Voulkos arrived. Meloy was self-taught in ceramics, and worked with his brother in clay during the 1940's. He returned to practice law, and became a district judge in Helena, while continuing to work in clay at home.
