Mizuno Toshikata
Japanese Edo/Meiji Painter and illustrator
Japanese, (1866–1908) Mizuno Kumejiro. Go: Toshikata.
Japanese-style painter and illustrator, who lived in Tokyo. First learned woodblock printing from Taiso Yoshitoshi, then studied Japanese-style painting with Watanabe Shotei. Also studied decoration of ceramics. Member of the Nihon Bijutsu Kyokai and Nihon Bijutsuin, frequently serving as a juror for these groups. Among his pupils were Ikeda Terukata, Ikeda Shoen, and Kaburagi Kiyokata. Painted genre subjects in a modified ukiyo-e manner with a Shijo-style background.
