Japanese, (1900–1953)
Western-style painter, born in Tokyo. Graduate of the Western-style painting division of the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1926. Pupil of Fujishima Takeji. In 1930 he went to Paris for further study (no mention of where he studied). On his return to Japan he showed with the Kofukai. In 1936 he helped to establish the Shinseisaku Kyokai. He was a writer as well as a painter. His style was the social-realism of the political left-wing artists.
