Painter of genre, history, and portrait paintings, and engraver. Trained as an engraver in the Rococo tradition. Study: St. Martin's Lane Academy, and later under Sir James Thornhill. Made his living doing group and portrait paintings, that were often disseminated widely in the form of prints. Tried to focus on history painting, without much success.
