Bill Gilbert
Contemporary Ceramist
American, b. c. 1950
Gilbert received his B.A. at Pitzer College in Claremont, California in 1973. He then completed the M.F.A. program at the University of Montana, studying under Rudy Autio and Ken Little, in 1978.  He published an article about adobe in the journal "Ceramics Monthly" in March of 1978. A New Mexico ceramics artist, Gilbert describes himself as a "contemporary Western artist" who uses the formal language of video and installation to question "what is the meaning of human presence in this vast space."  His work could be defined as regional in that it shares a minimal and conceptual approach favored by many contemporary New Mexican artists.
