Utagawa Kunitora
Edo Ukiyo-e Woodblock print
Japanese Utagawa (originally Maeda) Kunitora. F.N.: Kumezo. Go: Bokunenjin, Ichiryusai.
Ukiyo-e printmaker, and pupil of Toyokuni. Was said to have worked under his teacher's name. He died in poverty, leaving few works behind. His work was somewhat influenced by Hokusai and Shunshosai Hokuju. His prints also show signs of Western influenced in pronounced chiaroscuro. His most important work: "Eight Views of Omi" is marked by a rather dated quality reminiscent of artists of the preceeding generation.
