Kawase Hasui

Japanese, (1883–1957) Kawase Bunjiro. Go: Hasui.
First studied Japanese-style painting under Kaburagi Kiyokata; later studied Western-style painting at the Hakubakai. In 1919 he turned exclusively to woodblock printing. He visited every place of scenic interest in Japan. In 1956 he was named a Living National Treasure. He had a tremendous output of landscape prints in a realistic and detailled style, strongly influenced by Western painting.
