20th century Modern Painter, muralist
b. Sept. 14, 1896 in Louisville, KY; d. 1974 in Norwich, VT. Active in Los Angeles, Vermont, and New Hampshire. Study: Dartmouth; Otis Art Institute with Stanton Macdonald Wright and F. Tolles Chamberlin. Taught architectural drawing and painting for ten years (1928-38) at USC. Primarily a landscape painter; did frescos since 1932 when he began assisting David Alfaro Siqueiros with the mural "Workers' Meeting" in 1938. He moved to Vermont and spent twenty years as an artist in residence at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire.
