b. Oct. 4, 1814 in Gruchy (by Gréville); d. Jan. 20, 1875 in Barbizon, France.
French landscape painter of Flemish birth; active mainly in Paris (also worked in England and Holland). No signed or documented works known, but several are authenticated by early engravings. Studied with Bon Dumoucel and Langlois de Chevreville in Cherbourg, and in 1837 with Delaroche in Paris. Began his career doing pastels and oil paintings; debut at the Salon in 1840.
