One of the foremost painters of his time. Studied under Bourgereau and Moreau, creating still lifes and landscapes in a somber range of color. In the Summer of 1896 in Brittany he began to adopt the lighter palate of the Impressionists. In 1899 he began to experiment with the Neo-Impressionist technique. He enjoyed a long, successful career.
