Jean Griffith received a B.A. in art at the University of Nebraska in 1950, and a M.F.A. in ceramics at the University of Washington in 1964. She worked as a teaching assistant at the University of Washington from 1962-1964. Griffith was a contemporary of ceramic artist Paul Soldner, and began working in raku around the same time. She moved to Washington in the 1960s, and worked at Pottery Northwest in Seattle, Washington, where she was the director for many years. Griffith has been in innumerable shows, and won many awards for her work.
