b. 1742/3 in London, England; d. Oct. 9, 1822 in Clerkenwell, England Son of Richard Earlom. Apprenticed with Cipriani and later worked with Alderman Boydell. Self taught in mezzotint engraving. Did over 60 mezzotints during his lifetime; was the first to combine the process of etching and mezzotint by use of the etched line on a mezzotint ground.
