Everette Busbee is an artist with an eclectic background. He earned a bachelor's degree in English literature, and then went on to attend a M.F.A. program in poetry while concurrently working on a master's in zoology. He also took horse breaking and shoeing courses at a state university in West Texas while working on his master's in ceramics.
Busbee has a passion for collecting old pots, particularly Renaissance Spanish and Mediterranean pots. He has stated, "Poetry for me is a combination of poetry and science, beauty and function, based on the physical act of doing." (Ceramics Monthly, Sept. 1987).
Color pervades his works, which are dominated by motifs of the birds, fish and animals, which he worked with as a zoologist. His pieces reflect a functional nature and are meant to be used and enjoyed.
