One of the best known of the Southern California watercolor painters of the twentieth century. He taught at the University of Southern California (1941, 1943), Scripps College (1941), Chaffey College (1942), and The Chouinard Art Institute (1947-1956). He won many awards for his work throughout his lifetime. Reoccuring themes in his work are sunlight, the ocean, boats in motion, and the semi-arid West. His style is highly individual, revealing angular, figurative forms.
