Study: New York Univ. 1939-41; Yale School of Fine Arts 1941-43; Taught sculpture and graphic arts at Smith College, 1953-74. Currently lives in Devon, England. Baskin's work is dominated by pessimistic themes of death and spiritual decay; man alone in the frightening and hostile world. His woodcuts reveal a likeness to anatomical charts, revealing nerves, muscles, and tendons. Numerous awards; in collections at: Met, National Gallery D.C., Brooklyn Museum, Fogg.
