b. Brussels, Belgium, October 19, 1927. Study: Book illustration and typography at L'Ecole d'Architecture et d'Arts Décoratifs de Bruxelles (1944-48) and engraving under S. W. Hayter at Atelier 17, Paris (1952). Married in 1949. Painter, designer and illustrator in Brussels, 1947-51, in Paris since 1951. In 1949 joined COBRA group. Heavily influenced by a trip to Japan in 1955. Numerous awards, exhibitions, and publications (on and by the artist).
