Object Description: Lady Aoi, the wife of Genji, has fallen ill with an incurable sickness. She has been cursed by the jealous spirit of Lady Rokujo, Genji’s past lover. In this print, the evil spirit of Lady Rokujo wears a female demon’s mask and holds a mallet, while hovering vengefully over Lady Aoi’s body (represented onstage by the folded kimono).
