Commentary
"In Plate, 1979, Frey depicts herself as a blue silhouetted head with large, ruby lips displayed on a bright yellow, heavily textured plate. One disembodied hand holds a poised paintbrush, while the other hand tentatively holds a mouselike form. Her juxtaposition and disparate signs for woman, hand, and artist are part of her vocabulary of found images."
(Martha Drexler Lynn, Revolution in Clay, 1994, pg. 105)
