Commentary
An imperial court official visits Arashiyama to see the famous cherry blossoms and encounters an elderly couple, who turn out to be the guardian deities of the trees Katsute My?jin and Komori My?jin. In the first part of the play, they tell how the trees were brought from Yoshino, and in the second part of the play (shown here) they are joined in dance by Za? Gongen, the fierce guardian deity of the Yoshino mountains.
