Object Description
Modern American Impressionist-style oil painting of a mother, with child in embrace; Melchers began a series of mother-and-child themed paintings after his marriage in 1903. The Caress portrays Julia Payne and her first child, Ivan, who during the early 1920s were frequent models for Melchers.
